OIC Denounces the Declaration of a National Salvation Government in Yemen

Date: 29/11/2016

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned in the strongest terms the declaration by the so-called ‘Supreme Political Council” of the establishment of a national salvation government in Yemen. It expressed its rejection of this illegitimate government whose declaration represents a breach of the Security Council resolution and of regional and international efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Yemeni crisis, end the suffering of the Yemeni people and bring about peace and stability in the country.

The OIC secretary General, Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, stated that the OIC is committed to supporting the legitimate government in Yemen under H.E. President Abd Rabbo Mansoor Hadi. He urged all Yemeni parties to respond effectively to the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, to reach a consensual solution to the Yemeni crisis, based on relevant UN Security Council resolutions, the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanisms, and the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference.

The Secretary General warned Houthi-Saleh militias againstpursuing their ill-considered exactions and their attempts to hamper efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution by seeking to impose the fait-accompli in such a way as to undermine internationally recognized legitimacy. He reiterated the OIC’s principled position in support of the unity, stability and territorial integrity of Yemen.
