Public Information and Communications

The Information Department at the General Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) undertakes essential media responsibilities which aim to carry out many tasks and activities in the fields of information, journalism and news reporting reflected in the following duties:

1.  Preparation of the Islamic Conferences of Information Ministers (ICIM).

2. Preparation of the Sessions of the Standing Committee of the Information and Cultural Affairs (COMIAC).

3. Preparation of new draft resolutions, supervise the implementation of previous resolutions, and preparation of reports of the OIC Secretary General in the field of information submitted to the various OIC conferences, and communication with the OIC Member States for their implementation.

4. Interaction with Muslim and foreign media apparatus.

5. Cooperating and coordinating with the International Islamic News Agency (IINA) and the Islamic Broadcasting Union (ISBU).

6. Coordinating with the global Digital Solidarity Fund in the field of media to activate the cooperation agreement between the OIC General Secretariat and the Fund.

7. Following up media coverage of the activities of the OIC Secretary General and Senior Officials of the OIC and disseminating news on their activities to the media.

8. Holding press conferences for senior OIC officials.

9. Issuing press releases, in coordination with relevant OIC Departments, following up their translation process into the three official languages of the OIC (Arabic, English and French), sending them electronically to media institutions in different parts of the world and ensuring their uploading to the OIC website.

10. Arranging interviews for the OIC Secretary General and Senior Officials with Islamic and foreign media.

11. Issuing various types of publications in the three official languages of the OIC.

12. Issuing the OIC quarterly publication titled "OIC Journal" in the three official languages of the OIC.

13. Preparing a daily electronic bulletin on news reports published about the OIC in the media.

14. Issuing a weekly electronic newsletter on the activities of the OIC and its subordinate institutions and emailing it to subscribers from various public and private sectors.

15. Designing and producing publications and coordinating the printing process with publishing houses.

16. Archiving photographs relevant to the OIC in the photo library available on the OIC website.

17. Oversee the archiving process of information material on the OIC website.

18. Continuous development of the database on the media institutions, journalists and writers inside and outside the OIC Member States (news agencies, satellite channels, newspapers and magazines, radio, electronic media).
