OIC Secretary General Welcomes The Convening of Un Facilitated Libyan Political Dialogue

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani welcomed the first round of the Libyan political dialogue held in Geneva on 14-15 January 2015 under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). He reiterated the support of the OIC to the efforts of Mr. Bernadino Leon, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the Libyan crisis. Mr. Madani emphasized the importance of national reconciliation and reaching a political solution in Libya to end the violence and instability and urged all the Libyan parties to demonstrate genuine political commitment to restore peace and stability and ensure territorial integrity of the country. The Secretary General reiterated the OIC’s commitment to contribute in all possible ways to the efforts of the Libyans and the wider international community in finding, through an all inclusive dialogue, a lasting solution to the Libyan crisis in order to allow the Libyan people to live in peace and security.
