The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, met with the UN Special Envoy to Libya Ghassan Salameh on the sidelines of the Mediterranean Dialogues Conference in Rome.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on issues of common interest. The Secretary General listened to an explanation by Dr. Salama on the latest developments in Libya and the UN efforts to settle the dispute. Dr. Al-Othaimeen affirmed the OIC’s full support for the reconstruction of Libya and the restoration of its stability, security and unity, as well as its support for comprehensive national reconciliation in the country, through the promotion of the Libyan national dialogue, with a view to reaching a comprehensive peace settlement.
The Secretary General stated that the OIC is committed to coordinating with the UN and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and the African Union, and with the neighboring States' mechanism, which made positive contributions towards reaching a peaceful settlement consistent with relevant OIC resolutions.
