Addressing the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership: Secretary-General Reaffirms the OIC’s Support for the Security, Stability and Development of Iraq

In his statement to the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, held on December 20, 2022 in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (Dead Sea), the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, commended the initiative of holding this conference which takes place at a critical time when Iraq is in need of every support and assistance so that it can overcome the various challenges with which it is confronted. He hailed, in this regard, the role of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as well as the role of the French President, Emmanuel Macron.

In his statement, delivered on his behalf by Ambassador Samir Bakr Diab, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Al-Quds Affairs, the Secretary-General reaffirmed the special place enjoyed by Iraq within the OIC, indicating the full readiness of the OIC and its agencies to contribute to all benevolent efforts and endeavors to support Iraq’s unity and territorial integrity, security and stability, reconstruction and prosperity, so that Iraq can pursue its leading role in the Arab and Islamic world. He noted that the stability and prosperity of Iraq are key to the stability and prosperity of the region.

The Secretary-General called on the countries of the region, Arab and Islamic States, friendly countries, Iraq’s partners, and international institutions to support Iraq in its efforts to strengthen the foundations of security, peace, stability and development, while respecting its sovereignty and choices and without interfering in its internal affairs.
