The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will host at its headquarters in Jeddah a consultative meeting on Tuesday 13 January 2015 on the issues related to the OIC Islamic Organization of Food Security (IOFS). The meeting shall include a presentation by the IOFS headquartered in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan to highlight the latest developments taken towards the establishment of this new specialized organization. Moreover, the OIC-IOFS shall announce that its first general assembly will be during the first quarter of this year. The attendees shall exchange views on the proposals on the IOFS action plan during the first three years after incorporation and start-up procedures have completed. It is worth mentioning that the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), at its fortieth session Conakry, Guinea, (9-11 December 2013), adopted the IOFS statute. The aim of the IOFS is to provide expertise and technical knowledge on the various aspects related to sustainable agriculture, rural development and food security. In addition, it aims to mobilize the financial resources to develop agriculture and promote food security in the OIC Member States.
