The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Iyad Ameen Madani, stressed that the OIC continues to promote the culture of tolerance and co-existence among all the population of its Member States, especially when it comes to the relation between Muslims and Christians in the Middle East, in pursuance of the principles of the pristine religion of Islam as a religion of moderation. In a message addressed to Al Quds Center for Political Studies, the OIC Secretary General said that the General Secretariat had initiated several firm positions on several occasions articulated in its statements condemning attacks against Christians in Syria and Iraq and manifestations of discrimination and sabotage of their places of worship. Madani’s message to the Center came in response to the appeal launched by the Second Conference on “Christians and the Arab Spring” held on 23 November 2014 in the Jordanian Capital, Amman. The Conference invited regional and international organisation, including the OIC, to draw attention to the situation of Christians in the region and to highlight their suffering and attempts to prejudice their rights.
