The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Iyad Amin Madani, welcomed the settlement agreement reached, on Friday 10 January 2014, in the Chadian capital N'Djamena, between the parties to the conflict in the Central African Republic-an OIC observer member-to cease fire, bring peace and enable a political transition process that ensures restoration of security and operationalisation of constitutional order in the country. The Secretary General commended the pivotal role played by the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC-ECCAS), headed by the president of Chad, Idriss Deby, through mediation efforts and a negotiation process between the parties to the conflict, which has led to an agreement to lift the country out of paralysis, and put an end to sectarian violence and the dismantling of political and social fabric in Central Africa. Iyad Amin Madani emphasised the need to act in good faith to implement the commitments contained in this agreement, which takes into account the fairness of representation and preserves the interests of the various components of the Central African community, so as to ensure the return of stability, peace and security in this country and the entire region.
