The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, and the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Nabil El- Araby, discussed ongoing developments in the region, particularly the crisis in Syria. They talked about the readiness of the international community to convene the Geneva II conference amid the deteriorating humanitarian conditions inside Syria and the refugee camps in neighbouring states as a result of very strong cold weather in the region.
The OIC Secretary General met with the Arab League Secretary General at his office in the League’s headquarter on Thursday 19 December 2013, when he paid a two-day visit to Cairo, the last in his current position.
The discussion also touched on the situation in the Arab and Muslim worlds. Ihsanoglu briefed El-Araby about the outcomes of the Council of Foreign Ministers’ conference in Conakry, and both sides explored ways of boosting relations and cooperation between the two organizations.
At the end of the office, El-Araby presented a memorabilia to Ihsanoglu for his role in leading the OIC over nine years and his efforts in upgrading its performance at the regional and international levels.
