The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has welcomed today, Monday 25 November 2013, the interim agreement reached in Geneva between the world’s six major powers (P-5 Plus One) and the Islamic Republic of Iran on Iran’s nuclear issue. While the Secretary General hailed the negotiated deal as a diplomatic breakthrough in the protracted stand-off over Iran's nuclear program, he stressed on the need for the establishment of a nuclear-free Middle East in line with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and in accordance with OIC resolutions calling for all countries in the region, with no exception, to accede unconditionally and with no further delay, to the NPT.
