OIC Secretary General’s Representative on Jammu and Kashmir visits the Province of Azad Kashmir

Within the framework of its political, diplomatic and humanitarian assistance to the people of Kashmir, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has recently dispatched a delegation headed by the Secretary General’s special representative on Jammu and Kashmir, H.E. Amb. Abdullah Abdurrahman Alim, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, on an official visit to Islamabad and the State of Jammu and Kashmir, from 19 to 23 November, 2013. The delegation was accompanied by representatives from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF) and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO). During its visit, the delegation had a series of meetings with the Pakistani Prime Minister’s special advisor in charge of external security, as well as with the H.E. President Sardar Mohammad Yaqoob Khan, President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Mr. Choudhry Abdul Majeed, Prime Minister of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Ambassador Alim reiterated on the occasion the OIC’s consistent stand in support of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. He also appraised the senior officials in Islamabad and Azad Jammu and Kashmir of the OIC’s diligent efforts in favour of the resumption of a positive and comprehensive dialogue between Pakistan and India to reach a peaceful solution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and respond to the Kashmiri people’s aspirations. The delegation also met with the members of the Legislative Assembly in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and a number of eminent political leaders in the State. It also partook in a debate organized by the Strategic Studies Institute in Islamabad in the form of a brainstorming session on the Kashmiri issue under the current developments witnessed in South-East Asia. Furthermore, the delegation took cognizance, on the ground, of the conditions of the Kashmiri people in the province, through a visit to a refugee camp. It also acquainted itself with the situation in the buffer zone between the two Kashmirs. On their part, the different Pakistani and Kashmiri leaders expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the OIC for its consistent support and its diligent action towards a solution for the longstanding Kashmiri dispute which has been enduring for the past six decades or more.
