OIC Secretary General Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoğlu met with Maître Nicolas Tiangaye, Prime Minister of the Central African Republic, and the accompanying ministerial delegation on Thursday, 21 November 2013 in Istanbul, on the sidelines of the 29th Session of the COMCEC. The Prime Minister informed the OIC Secretary General of the present political situation and the ongoing economic and humanitarian developments in the country. He also spoke of the current transitional period aiming to bring political stability to the country and enable it hold transparent and democratic elections in February 2015 as scheduled. Prime Minister Tiangaye affirmed that the Central African Republic aims to participate more actively in the work of the OIC, which is the world’s second largest intergovernmental organisation. Prof. Ihsanoğlu expressed his pleasure of these first high-level talks held between the OIC and the Central African Republic. He said that the OIC stands ready to do its best to support and assist the Central African Republic in order that the latter may achieve stability and socio-economic development. He invited the Central African Republic, which enjoys the Observer Status at the OIC, to participate actively in the forthcoming 40th Session of the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers to take place in Conakry, Guinea on 9-11 December 2013.
