The OIC Secretary General expressed his satisfaction for the success of transparent and peaceful Legislative and Municipal Elections in Mauritania

The team of observers composed of officials from the OIC General Secretariat and led by Amb. Habib Kaabachi, monitored on Saturday 23 November 2013, the Legislative and Municipal elections in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.   After monitoring these elections in a large number of polling stations in the capital Nouakchott and its suburbs, the OIC observers noted with satisfaction that these elections were held peacefully with the participation of a large number of political parties, in a transparent manner and in full respect of the existing electoral laws and regulations of the country. Large numbers of Mauritanians including youth and women were seen waiting in lines for long hours to exercise their voting rights. The OIC delegation has not recorded any significant violation in the conduct of these elections.   The OIC observers conveyed the congratulations of H. E. Secretary General, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, to the people of Mauritania for the success of these elections which constitute an important step towards consolidating democracy and good governance in Mauritania, within an all inclusive national political dialogue aiming towards strengthening stability and development of the country.
