Celebration of the Completion of the First Batch of Artesian Wells under Saudi National Campaign Project

On Tuesday morning, 15 February 1435 AH – 19 November, 2013, Mogadishu, the Somali capital, witnessed a ceremony for the completion of the first batch of "50 wells" of Saudi National Campaign Project for the Relief of Somali People to dig and rehabilitate 150 artesian wells spread over eleven provinces affected by drought and famine in Somalia. The ceremony was honored by the presence of H.E. Abdul Razak Omar Mohammed, Minister of National Wealth, on behalf of the Somali Prime Minister, a number of ambassadors, diplomats and representatives of international organizations, the United Nations and humanitarian organizations, a number of elders and dignitaries of Somalia, in addition to Dr. Rami Mohammed Anshasi, the representative of the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC),. The OIC statement commended the efforts of Saudi government and people in supporting the Somali people in their distress through humanitarian relief and development assistance. It pointed to the importance of providing potable water to the affected areas through humanitarian partnership between the Saudi National Campaign Project for the Relief of Somali People and the OIC, which represented a model in promoting Islamic solidarity and joint teamwork. In his speech, H.E. the Minister expressed thanks and appreciation of the Somali Government and people for the efforts of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Saudi people on and their sincere stand with their brothers in Somalia, pointing to the importance of the project to provide drinking water for humans and animals alike. His Excellency also praised the efforts of the Saudi National Campaign for the Relief of Somali People in the areas of relief and development through their outstanding projects and prayed to Allah to grant them His bounteous rewards. Honorary medals were provided at the ceremony by the OIC to the National Saudi National Campaign for the Relief of Somali People, Somali Government and the executing company "Al-Rayah International ". Various statements of thanks and appreciation to the Saudi National Campaign were also delivered at the ceremony. It should be noted that the second phase of artesian well drilling and rehabilitation project, estimated at 100 wells, had begun its operational steps so that this vital project for the Somali people is completed as soon as possible.
