The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Prof. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, received the construction permission for the new OIC headquarters in Jeddah, KSA. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu had received Dr. Hani bin Muhammad Abu Rass, the Mayor of Jeddah, at his office on Wednesday 7/11/2012. During the meeting, the construction permission for the new OIC headquarters in Khuzam Gardens and Palaces in Jeddah city with a total area of 91.500 square meters was handed over. The building will include a be cone-shaped tower and a conference palace for meetings of the OIC and its subsidiary organs, in addition to a garden surrounding the building.
Prof. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu and Dr. Hani bin Muhammad Abu Rass listened to a detailed presentation of the building and its specifications. Both sides also saw video clips and an explanation of the project, delivered by Zuhair Faiz for architectural consultancies, which will represent the OIC in the coming project.
The OIC Secretary General expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Shrines for this gift, which represents an important edifice, to the Islamic world. He also thanked the Kingdom for its continued support and great baking to the OIC activities by providing it with all necessary means and facilities in discharging its mission.
Meanwhile, preparations for announcing the international competition for the project, are expected to begin shortlyin order to start the construction process which will constitute a qualitative shift in the OIC work which should redouble its activaties and help it to deliver its message which is aimed at promoting Islamic solidarity.
The OIC had signed the headquarters agreement with the KSA on the sidelines of the Fourth Extra-ordinary Islamic Summit, in Jeddah on 13/8/2012.
