Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, OIC Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) met with Egyptian Foreign Minister, Mohamad Kamel Amru, at the Foreign Ministry in Cairo today Sunday 4th November, 2012. The two parties discussed the bilateral relations between the OIC and the Arab Republic of Egypt as well as a number of regional issues, foremost of which the situation in Syria. The two parties also discussed the violent actions perpetrated against the Muslim Rohingya minority in the province of Arakan in Myanmar, and exchanged views on suggested effective moves to deal positively with this issue, particularly at the level of international fora.
The meeting also addressed the necessary arrangements for the convening of the twelfth Islamic summit scheduled to be held early next February in Egypt along with the ongoing preparations for the OIC Foreign Ministers meeting due to be convened in Djibouti on 15-17 of the current month.
On another hand, the OIC Secretary General also met with Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Egyptian Minister of State of Antiquities, and examined with him possible activities and projects that could be undertaken by the two parties for the protection of Islamic heritage and antiquities in the OIC Member States.
These meetings took place within the framework of the OIC Secretary General’s current visit to Cairo which started on Saturday last and is scheduled to extend up until this coming Tuesday, and which will also include meetings with the Egyptian President and Prime Minister.
