The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has sent a cable to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz, welcoming the wise orientations contained in the pronouncements made by the King during the annual reception he hosted for important personalities and heads of delegation in this year’s pilgrimage.
These orientations, according to the Secretary General, are the best guidance for the Organization, particularly for the emphasis they laid on the great principles and values on which all divine religions agree, which, in their totality, constitute the notion of humanity and distinguish humans from all other creatures. These principles are those of truthfulness, trust, tolerance, mutual support, equality, dignity of man and care for the family, being the foundation of every society.
The Secretary General expressed his readiness and that of the Organization to respond to the call made by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to emphasize the commonalities between religions, creeds and cultures, to hold fast to the notions of morality and the family, and to return to the Almighty God in order to surmount differences, forge rapprochement and create a world where peace, understanding, progress and prosperity will prevail.
Professor Ihsanoglu explained that the OIC is best placed to symbolize these wise orientations which also form the crux of the Ten-Year Programme of Action to Confront the Challenges facing the Islamic Ummah in the 21st Century, which was adopted by the Extraordinary Islamic Summit held in Makkah Al Mukarramah two years ago and called through a generous invitation and historic initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz. The Organization of the Islamic Conference, said the Secretary General, is working very hard to implement the programme as it is a realistic diagnosis of the challenges of the current phase even as it sets out the objectives and visions of a better future for Islam and Muslims.
The Secretary General, in this context, stressed that the Organization is working to encourage dialogue among religions and to highlight the commonalities between them. He also added that the OIC is an active partner in the dialogue among civilizations as well as in similar initiatives and efforts.
