Statement of the OIC Secretary General on The Occasion of the Blessed Eid El Adha

Date: 15/12/2007

On the occasion of the blessed Eid El Adha, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, released the following statement. “On the occasion of the blessed Eid El Adha, I am pleased to send sincere and warm congratulations to all peoples of the Islamic Ummah throughout the length and breadth of the world on this great religious moment. This is an occasion that is filled with many meanings and symbols, the first of which is sacrifice in obedience to the commands of the Almighty Allah. I pray to Allah to make the festival a key to goodness and hope for the entire Islamic Ummah. May Allah guide us to the path of righteousness to uplift the religion and to work for the progress of Islam and Muslims. “The Eid and the associated coming together of millions of Muslims on the plain of Arafat is a truly religious and awe-inspiring occasion that reminds the Muslims of the imperatives of unity, solidarity and sincerity in discharging their duties of helping one another to achieve strength and empowerment. This will make them more capable and stronger to thwart machinations against them, to defend their sanctuaries and support their brothers to regain their usurped rights and provide them with the means to might and dignity. “One must recall, in this regard, the invitation extended during the 1425H Hajj by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, by virtue of which the Extraordinary Islamic Summit was held in Makkah Al Mukarramah. That conference was successful by the Grace of Allah, in that it created a qualitative shift in joint Islamic action by adopting the Ten-Year Programme of Action, the implementation of which started the day after its adoption. We are convinced that the political will demonstrated by Member States, the commitment shown by the institutions and various components of the society, as well as the readiness shown by people of the Islamic Ummah, all go to underscore interest in the Ten-Year Programme of Action. This interest is driven by their consciousness that efforts to implement and meet its demands will provide victory for the causes of the Islamic Ummah and raise the standing of Islam and Muslims in the world. “I pray to the Almighty Allah to make us witness more of the Eid and that, by then, the Islamic Ummah would have regained its outstanding positions in the comity of world’s nations; the Muslims would have reclaimed their usurped rights; and the progress and prosperity to which we all aspire would have been achieved.”
