The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has expressed strong condemnation for Israel’s decision to build 300 housing units on Jabel Abu Ghunaim in the occupied Jerusalem.
He said that the decision is a new and serious violation of resolutions of international legitimacy and a disdain for the commitments made by Israel at the Annapolis meeting and in the Road Map obliging it to stop building on all occupied Palestinian lands, including natural expansion of settlements.
The Secretary General also emphasized that the Israeli decision, coming just a few days after the Annapolis peace meeting, only reiterates Israel’s trivialization of the push for a just and comprehensive peace founded on international legitimacy, the United Nations resolutions and the Road Map. The Secretary General called upon the Quartet as well as the States and organizations that attended the Annapolis meeting to put pressure on Israel and force it to immediately stop anything capable of derailing the peace process.
