The Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, addressed a message to the meeting organized by the United Nations ion New York and Geneva on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people.
In the address read on his behalf, the Secretary General reaffirmed the solidarity and support of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference for the Palestinian people in their just struggle to regain their inalienable national rights, topmost of which are their rights to self determination, to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with Al Quds as its capital, and the right to return, in accordance with resolutions of international legitimacy.
Professor Ihsanoglu also condemned Israel for the violations it committed in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly the one against the Blessed Al Aqsa Mosque and the City of Al Aqsa, where it is trying to Judaize the Holy City and change its Arab and Islamic identity as well as its civilizational and historical character through settlements, walls and excavations.
The Secretary General also emphasized the necessity that that the international efforts being deployed should arrive at a just and comprehensive solution of the Middle East conflict and the implementation of the resolutions of international legitimacy. This is to ensure an end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian and Arab lands occupied in 1967, to enable the Palestinian people establish their independent Palestinian state, with Al Quds Al Shareef as its capital, to end the long suffering of the people, and to facilitate the return of their refugees to their cities and villages, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 194.
