The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has attended the Annapolis Conference on the Middle East Peace Process on 27 November 2007. On the sidelines of the Conference he met many of the participating heads of delegation and exchanged views on the peace process as well as the role that the OIC can play in assisting the Palestinians on both political and economic spheres.
On the 28 November 2007, the OIC Secretary General held a bilateral meeting with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Washington D.C. during which they exchanged assessments on the Annapolis Conference and the prospects for the future, particularly the prospective Paris and Moscow follow-up conferences. The ways and means of OIC’s contribution to sustain the position of the Palestinian side was also discussed. It was agreed that both sides will be in close contact in the coming period.
