During the last Annual Coordination Meeting held in New York in October 2007, the OIC Foreign Ministers called upon all Member States to consider contributing to the UN Peace Building Fund (PBF) through the OIC General Secretariat. In this context, the General Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Conference has implemented the recommendation by paying US.$ 20,000 to the Fund which was launched on 11th October 2006 towards establishing a crucial bridge between conflict and recovery since peace-building activities impact positively on post-conflict stabilization and strengthening stake-holders’ capacities. The OIC contribution to PBF, makes it the 40th donor in line with the Ten-Year Programme of Action (POA) and further supplements the initiatives undertaken under the OIC Poverty Alleviation Fund launched earlier last year, with an initial budget of US$10 billion, the Poverty Alleviation Fund supports the developments of Least Developed OIC Member States through institution-building and other activities. Given the increasingly complex challenges being tackled by the PBF, the Organization of the Islamic Conference hopes that its contribution will serve as a catalyst to its Member States.
