The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, condemned in the strongest terms the string of bombings that rippled through the city of Kono, the largest city in Nigeria's mainly Muslim north. The Secretary General expressed his deep concern that the Boko Haram Group resorts to brutal and unabated violence in the wake of its recent threats to launch attacks against State targets across the country. Professor Ihsanoglu called on all stakeholders in Nigeria, including the political, religious and community leaderships to adopt urgent collaborative actions towards stemming this regrettable cycle of deadly violence. He also expressed the OIC’s support to the Nigerian government in its commendable endeavors aimed at preserving national cohesion and promoting peaceful co-existence in all parts of the country.
