Upon an invitation from the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a delegation of observers from the OIC General Secretariat took part, along with a three-member election observer team from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in monitoring the early Parliamentary elections held on Sunday 15 January 2012. The members of the delegation undertook extensive field visits to various polling stations throughout the major districts of the capital Astana and monitored all stages of the vote. They took note of the massive turnout of voters who cast their votes in a calm and disciplined atmosphere. The Secretary General of the OIC, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, would like to seize this opportunity to express his satisfaction with the overall conduct that marked the elections. He extended his congratulations to the Kazakh people for showing, once more, their keenness to foster national unity and involvement in the enforcement of democratic institutions of their country. He also expressed his appreciation to the Kazakh authorities for their remarkable, professional, and organized approach to conducting the elections.
