OIC Secretary General Renews Appeal For Peace And Stability In Nigeria

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has today restated his concern for the continuing threat posed by the activities of the so called Boko Haram militants in Nigeria particularly the recent pronouncement by its spokesman on their intention to scale up their attacks on targets in the country. Prof Ihsanoglu, while commending the efforts of the authorities at various levels in Nigeria towards restoring the security, peace and unity in the country based on its positive diversities, appealed to all stakeholders including political, religious and community leaders to avoid acts of incitement which could further fuel the current regrettable cycle of violence and the support the government in its genuine endeavors to preserve national cohesion and promote peaceful co-existence in all parts of the country. The Secretary General reiterated the readiness of the OIC to contribute to any demarche that may assist Nigeria to overcome its present serious challenges.
