OIC Secretary General extends his deepest condolences for the demise of H.E. Rauf Denktas, the Founding President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation H.E. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu extended his deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for the passing away of H.E. Mr. Rauf Denktas, Founding President of TRNC. In his statement Ihsanoglu described President Denktas as a historic leader and unforgettable hero of the Islamic and Turkish world and underlined that in his struggle for peace and stability for his country President Denktas has been a role model for many politicians, particulary due to his wise and intelligent approach as well as integrity. Finally, Ihsanoglu sent letters to the President of TRNC H.E. Dervis Eroglu and on behalf of himself and the Islamic world expressed his deepest condolences and conveyed his sympathy and prayers to the family of H.E. Rauf Denktas and the Turkish Cypriot people. OIC Secretary General will also attend the funeral ceremony of H.E. Denktas to be held in TRNC on 17 January 2012.
