Turkish Deputy Prime Minister visits the OIC Secretary General, 11 January 2012

During his visit to Jeddah, H.E. Mr. Ali Babacan, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey in charge of Economic Affairs paid a visit to H.E. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in his office on 11 January 2012. During the meeting, Secretary General hailed the contribution and efforts of Turkey for the development of economic and trade cooperation among the OIC countries, including through its Chairmanship of the OIC Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC). He also provided an update about the progress achieved regarding the OIC projects towards further strenghtening economic and commercial cooperation among the Member States, including on the OIC Trade Preferential System (TPS-OIC) composed of the Framework Agreement, a Protocol, and the Agreement of the Rules of Origin, which recently entered into force. Secretary General has called for taking advantage of TPS-OIC to expand trade among the OIC countries. He also referred to the OIC projects on cotton and agro-industry and food security. On his part, Deputy Prime Minister Babacan thanked the OIC Secretary General for his efforts to encourage commercial and economic cooperation among the OIC countries and reiterated Turkey’s support to the OIC’s endeavors to this end. Secretary General Ihsanoglu and Deputy Prime Minister Babacan also exchanged views about some issues on the agenda of the OIC.
