The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned the outrageous terrorist act perpetrated yesterday, Friday 6th January 2012 in Damascus, resulting in heavy losses in lives and property. The Organization expressed its condemnation of all terrorist acts and the use of violence against citizens in Syria. The General Secretariat reiterated its principled stand vis-à-vis the current crisis in Syria in favour of a dialogue-driven solution, and called upon the Syrian Government to speed up its response to the requests of the United Nations and the resolutions issued by the OIC Executive Council and the League of Arab States. The OIC General Secretariat also urged the Syrian authorities, once again, to implement the necessary reforms and engage an early national dialogue so as to guard against any further hazardous developments.
