The Organization of Islamic Cooperation will send a humanitarian mission to Mindanao in southern Philippines, to take account of the situation there following typhoon (Washi), which caused flash floods that submerged the southern island of Mindanao, leaving more than 1,000 dead, hundreds missing, and extensive damage. The delegation, composed of senior officials of the General Secretariat of the Organization, the Islamic Development Bank and the Islamic Solidarity Fund, will be heading to the Philippines on Sunday, December 25, 2011, upon directives by the OIC Secretary General, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu. The delegation will survey the region to assess needs and consider possible means for helping those affected quickly, in consultation with relevant government agencies and humanitarian partners of the Organization, including the United Nations. Furthermore, the Secretary-General of the Organization reiterated his appeal to the international community to provide more humanitarian aid to the Philippines.
