The OIC Secretary General, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu made a strong humanitarian appeal to the international community for the Philippines following the flash floods which devastated the Southern Region of Mindanao causing the death of over 450 people with hundreds missing and leaving a massive trail of destruction due to heavy rains. Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu also sadly noted that Tropical Storm Washi which dumped in 12 hours more than a month of average rains on Mindanao has compounded the difficulties facing the Southern Region by annihilating all development efforts which have been taking place for several decades. The OIC Secretary General while expressing his condolences to the Government and people of the Philippines and the bereaved families, called on the international community at large, and the OIC Member States, their philanthropists and various NGOs in particular, to urgently extend all the vital emergency assistance to the affected people in the Philippines to help save lives and rebuild the livelihood after these deadly and devastating floods.
