OIC reiterates its call for full respect of the immunity of the Sudanese President

Date: 07/12/2011

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed its support for the position taken by the African Union (AU), the League of Arab States (LAS), and the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD), which emphasizes the need to fully respect the immunity of Sudanese President Omer Hasan Ahmed Al-Bashir and all other heads of state. As it restated the OIC principled position adopted by the Emergency Ministerial meeting of the OIC Executive Committee held on 4 August 2008 on the Sudan, which rejected the indictment leveled by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against the President of the Republic of the Sudan, the OIC, while upholding the principle of justice and avoidance of impunity, expressed grave concern over the recent developments in relation to this issue, which could seriously undermine the ongoing peace process in Darfur as well as the stability and security of the entire region.
