Ihsanoglu Condemns Decision to Build 650 Settlement Units In East Jerusalem

Date: 03/12/2011

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has strongly condemned the approval of the Israeli occupation government for the construction of 650 new settlement units and a road linking them to occupied Jerusalem. He asserted that the Israeli settlement policies seek to isolate the City of Jerusalem from its Palestinian environs and alter its demographic characteristics, which is a blatant violation of international law and resolutions of the United Nations. The Secretary General called on the Quartet and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities and take decisive positions which would put an end to these provocative measures and illegal practices in the entire occupied Palestinian territories, especially East Jerusalem.
