OIC Secretary General Commends Successful Legislative Polls In Morocco

Date: 28/11/2011

The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has commended the excellent arrangements and legislative elections process witnessed in the Kingdom of Morocco on 25 November 2011. The election was the first to be organized since the draft amended constitution was approved in a general referendum in May 2011. The Secretary General expressed confidence that the successful election process in Morocco constitutes an important landmark in support of the democratic reform launched by the Moroccan Monarch King Mohamed VI in order to give effect to the principles of good governance, political openness, social justice and economic development in the country. This is in line with the Ten-Year programme of Action adopted by OIC Member States during the Extraordinary Islamic Summit held in Makkah in December 2005.
