The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof. Ekmeleddin Thsanoglu has voiced deep concern on the latest developments in Somalia. Prof. Ihsanoglu who condemned the escalation of fighting in Mogadishu and the shelling of population areas leading to civilian casualties, urged the combatants especially the foreign troops to exercise maximum restraint and save innocent lives. He lamented that this latest violence would further complicate the already serious humanitarian crisis in the country. The Secretary General, while urging to the international community to mobilise to rescue Somalia, appealed to those African countries who promised troops to AMIS to urgently deploy them in order to restore peace and stability to the country.
