Tripartite Meeting between OIC, Government of Philippines and MNLF

The Tripartite Meeting between the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the Government of the Philippines and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) will be held on November 10th – 12th , 2007 at the Headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah. The meeting will discuss the implementation of the Peace Agreement signed in 1996 between the MNLF and the Government regarding the situation in southern Philippines. The OIC General Secretariat has welcomed the decision of the court in Manila to allow the leader of the MNLF Mr. Nur Misuari to travel to the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah to participate in this meeting. The OIC Secretary General, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu will chair the opening of the meeting which will be attended by the representatives of the Government of the Philippines and the delegation of the MNLF. During the meeting, Ihsanoglu will deliver a speech in which he will highlight the role of the OIC in following up the implementation of the Peace Agreement on southern Philippines signed in 1996. The Secretary General had dispatched a high-level delegation led by his Special Representative on the issue of Philippines to assess the situation. The delegation had made contacts with the relevant parties and came to an agreement to hold a Tripartite Meeting in Jeddah to review the 1996 Peace Agreement and to study its implementation. The opening of the meeting will be preceded by an expanded meeting of the Committee of Eight in-charge of southern Philippines, chaired by Indonesia.
