The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has warmly welcomed the peace deal signed on 25th October in Sirte, Libya, between the Government of Chad and four rebel groups operating in Eastern Chad. Ihsanoglu, who commended the parties for renouncing violence and agreeing to an immediate cease-fire, hoped that the accord will not only reinforce peace and stability in Chad but also help to address the humanitarian crisis in the region. While further appealing to other insurgent groups to abandon violence and seek for a peaceful settlement of their grievances, the Secretary General also commended the Libyan leader, Colonel Muammar Qaddhafi for his efforts in brokering the agreement.
