The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, who has been closely following with much concern the recent developments in Egypt, has called for maximum restraint and to spare the lives of the people. He appealed to all components of Egyptian society to ensure that all public and private properties are duly protected and preserved. Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu pointed out that the OIC, out of its keenness to achieve sustainable development in its Member States, adopted a comprehensive project for political and socio-economic reform in the Member States within the Ten-Year Program of Action adopted by the Extraordinary Makkah Summit of 2005, which seeks to meet the aspiration of the poeple by realizing their prosperity and progress. He further called for redoubling efforts to implement this ambitious program in its different domains in a bid to materialize the hopes of the peoples in the Member States to realize the desired progress. The Secretary General expressed his full confidence that Egypt with its heritage, history and well-known values, has the full capability and ability to overcome the current crisis peacefully and to keep playing the role it has always played on both the regional and international arenas.
