OIC Secretary General exchanges views with AU Chairperson on the situation in Cote D’Ivoire

The Secretary General of the OIC Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu today, 19 December 2010 exchanged views through telephone contact with the AU Chairperson H.E Jeang Ping on the situation in Cote D’Ivoire. Ihsanoglu briefed the AU Chairperson on the outcome of the OIC Executive Committee meeting held on 16th December in Jeddah and its decision to suspend the membership of Cote D’Ivoire in OIC meetings and activities until the legitimately elected President Alassan Ouattara fully assumes office. The Secretary General assured the AU of the OIC’s support to all its endeavors to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Cote D’Ivoire and its readiness to join any international initiative in this regard. On his part, the AU Chairperson expressed satisfaction with the position taken by the OIC and briefed the Secretary General on the ongoing efforts by the AU to resolve the crisis. Both sides agreed to continue contacts and coordination on the situation in Cote D’Ivoire.
