OIC reaffirms its continuing solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir

Date: 06/02/2007

On the occasion of the Kashmir Solidarity Day celebrated on 5th February 2007, the OIC has reaffirmed its continuing and unflinching support for the struggle of the Kashmiris to achieve their legitimate aspiration for self-determination through a peaceful settlement of the dispute and in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions. This was contained in a statement delivered yesterday by the Assistant Secretary General, Ambassador Ezzat Kamel Mufti, who is also the Special Representative of the OIC Secretary General on the Jammu and Kashmir Dispute at the function organized by the Consulate General of Pakistan to commemorate this year’s Kashmir Solidarity Day. Ambassador Mufti, who further praised the latest bold initiative of President Pervez Musharraf, appealed to India to take advantage and develop a new political will for an expeditious peaceful resolution of the decades-old conflict which has impended full normalization of relations between the two neighboring nations. Finally the Special Representative, while reiterating the commitment of the OIC for a sustained engagement on the Jammu and Kashmir question, disclosed his preparedness to undertake very soon a field visit to Azad Kashmir, as a clear demonstration of concrete solidarity with the long-suffering Kashmiri people
