Final Communiqué of the Emergency Meeting of Permanent Representatives of the OIC Member States on the Floods in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 18 August 2010 (8 Ramadan 1431) The Emergency Meeting of the Permanent Representatives of the Member States of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) held on 18 August 2010 (8 Ramadan 1431 H) at the Headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Proceeding from the principles and objectives of the OIC Charter and in line with the implementation of the essence of the Ten-Year Programme of Action which calls for social solidarity to address disasters, and the Final Communiqué of the 11th Session of the Islamic Summit Conference which calls for the coordination of the efforts of humanitarian relief action; Having considered the unprecedented humanitarian tragedy the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is experiencing due to the floods which swept many regions as the worst humanitarian disaster in the world in modern history; Expressing the solidarity of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and its Member States with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and with the Pakistani people in these critical times the country is enduring; Recalling the comprehensive presentation of the OIC Secretary General on the serious humanitarian situation in Pakistan caused by floods, and having listened to the delegate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and to the interventions of the delegates of the Member States; 1- Calls upon the international community at large and the Islamic World in particular at the level of States, institutions and individuals to extend urgent in-kind and financial support to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to alleviate its burden and help it overcome this humanitarian disaster. 2- Urges the OIC Member States, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF), the Red Crescent Societies of the OIC Member States, charity and humanitarian organizations, and private financial institutions to urgently address the humanitarian needs of the Pakistani people. 3- Expresses its appreciation and gratitude to the Member States and to all the entities which contributed to the provision of emergency assistance to the Republic of Pakistan, either directly or through the OIC, in embodiment of Islamic solidarity in this blessed month. 4- Emphasizes that despite the significant support provided by some Member States to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Pakistani people is still in a pressing need of further urgent relief support to be able to respond to its daily needs and overcome this plight. 5- Calls on the OIC, to consider seriously the establishment of an emergency fund to address efficiently and urgently natural disasters and catastrophes which might affect individual Member States in the future, particularly in view of the phenomena of global warming and climate change. 6- Calls upon Member States, in coordination with the General Secretariat, to organize telethon fundraising in their countries in aid of Pakistani people affected by the floods, in the spirit of Islamic solidarity. 7- Calls upon the OIC General Secretariat to initiate a programme for the children affected by the floods and requests Member States and institutions to contribute generously towards the success of this programme. 8- Calls upon the OIC General Secretariat, in coordination with the Government of the Republic of Pakistan, to thoroughly coordinate humanitarian developments to keep Member States up-dated and to organize an Islamic philanthropic and humanitarian organizations meeting on the humanitarian situation in Pakistan. 9- Calls upon the IDB, in consultation with the government of Pakistan, to work out long term programmes for the reconstruction and rehabilitation needs of the flood affected areas in Pakistan. 10- Calls upon the OIC Member States to broadcast the video appeal of OIC Secretary General’s call to assist the flood-affected people in Pakistan. 11- Expresses its profound gratitude and appreciation to The Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Ibn Abdulaziz Al Saud and his Government and to the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their earlier initiative to organize an air bridge of urgent humanitarian assistance to the victims in Pakistan, commends in particular the national donations campaign ordered by The Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques, and calls on all Member States to emulate the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in this regard.
