OIC Strongly Condemns Deliberate Targeting of Journalists in the Occupied Palestinian Territories

Date: 16/12/2023

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the deliberate targeting of journalists and their families in the Occupied Palestinian Territories by the Israeli occupation forces. The most recent of these was the assassination of the cameraman Samir Abu Daqah and the wounding of the reporter Wael Al Dahduh of Al-Jazeera Network. The General Secretariat renewed its call to the International Criminal Court to continue the investigation into all the crimes perpetrated by Israel, the occupying power, against civilians, including media practitioners and journalists who are deliberately killed, arrested, and assaulted on account of their journalistic profession.

The OIC also holds the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the martyrdom of more than 80 journalists and the arrest of 45 others since the beginning of the Israeli military aggression in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The OIC views this as part of efforts to prevent the journalists from carrying out their mission of broadcasting to the world public opinion scenes of war crimes being perpetrated by the Israeli occupation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and documenting them. The OIC also called on relevant international institutions to act immediately to ensure justice and provide necessary protection under international law and relevant international conventions for civilians including journalists working in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
