The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr Hissein Brahim Taha, expressed his disappointment and condemnation at the failure of the Security Council to vote in favor of a decisive resolution for a ceasefire. He noted that this failure impacts negatively on the Security Council’s role of maintaining international peace and security, protecting innocent civilians, and curbing the worsening humanitarian situation as a result of continuing brutal Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The Secretary-General cautioned that the Security Council’s failure to assume its responsibility at this critical stage gives the Israeli occupation the opportunity to continue escalating its aggression against the Palestinian people.
He also commended the stances of all Member States that supported the draft resolution at the Security Council and reiterated the need to continue efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire, ensure delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.
