The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called on the international community to assume its responsibilities by putting an end to the ongoing Israeli military aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. It stressed the need for providing urgent humanitarian relief, basic needs, and international protection, for the Palestinian people who are enduring a war crime due to the unprecedented Israeli aggression, resulting so far in the killing of more than seven thousand Palestinians and the injury of more than 16,000 citizens, mostly women and children. It has also led to the deliberate and indiscriminate destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure, as well as the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes in flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
This appeal is articulated through letters addressed by the OIC Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha, to a number of international actors, including the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, the Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, the President of the International Red Cross, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
