The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) H. E. Hissein Brahim Taha emphasized the need to enhance coordination in the elaboration of a successor program to the OIC 2015 - 2025 Program of Action for the decade 2026 - 2035.
Addressing the expanded Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions (ACMOI) for the first time since his assumption of duties as the Secretary-General of the OIC in November 2021, the Secretary-General welcomed all the heads of OIC executive organs to the ACMOI meeting, which is being convened after a 3-year break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am happy to see you all here to discuss the issues pertaining to the synergy and efficiency in our various operations towards implementing the decisions and resolutions of the OIC,” said the OIC Secretary General.
“In addition to representatives of the OIC institutions, this meeting is being also attended, for the first time, by the heads of OIC offices abroad to enable them to interact with the various OIC institutions and identify areas of cooperation,” he added.
The Secretary General noted that ACMOI’s regular consultations and exchange of ideas, undoubtedly, gives the OIC and its institutions an opportunity to review priorities and joint actions towards addressing common challenges and help Member Countries in the face of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic compounded by climate change, natural hazards, and conflicts, among other challenges, in addition to the implementation of OIC programs and initiatives in the various sectors.
The ACMOI meeting reviewed the progress made since the fifth ACMOI meeting in 2019 and considered new tasks emanating from the latest Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) resolutions and decisions of other OIC Ministerial Conferences in the socio-economic domain.
The meeting also reviewed the progress towards the attainment of the objectives of the OIC-2025 Program of Action and plans for a successor program for the decade 2026 - 2035.
