On the sidelines of the 12th session of the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in Istanbul, Türkiye, H.E. Secretary-General of the OIC, Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, held a series of bilateral meetings on October 22, 2022.
The Secretary-General met with H.E. Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, Minister of Media of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He reiterated his thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom for its continued support to the OIC and its various programs and projects. The meeting discussed aspects of cooperation between the two sides and reviewed key information-related issues and the ways of enhancing bilateral work to address these issues. The Saudi Minister commended the efforts exerted by the Secretary-General, stressing the readiness of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which chaired the 11th session of the ICIM, to continue supporting and advancing the Organization’s work in the information field.
The Secretary-General met with H.E. Prof. Fahrettin Altun, Director of Communications at the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye. He expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Republic of Türkiye, to its leadership represented by H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and to the Turkish people, for having kindly hosted the Conference, and for the excellent organization and generous hospitality. The meeting addressed a number of information-related issues. The Secretary-General stressed the necessity to stand against Islamophobia and disinformation and emphasized the need for practical actions to curb these phenomena by means of a unified OIC strategy. For his part, Prof. Altun affirmed the readiness of Türkiye, which chairs the current session of the ICIM, to mobilize the Member States’ efforts to combat and eliminate these phenomena in practical and effective ways.
The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration. He congratulated the Republic of Azerbaijan on the success of its bid to host the 13th session of the ICIM. The meeting discussed key information-related issues that can be built on in the coming years. The Secretary-General expressed his confidence in the ability of the Republic of Azerbaijan to enhance work in the information field. For his part, Mr. Hajiyev affirmed Azerbaijan’s readiness to provide all that is necessary to support various information-related issues and expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Secretary-General for his support and cooperation with his country, as well as for his efforts to promote joint Islamic action.
The Secretary-General held talks with H.E. Mr. Daud Aweis Jama, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Somalia. The meeting discussed issues of common interest and the ways of developing bilateral cooperation between the OIC and Somalia. The Secretary-General stressed the role of Somalia in the Organization, being a founding member, and underlined the OIC’s keen endeavor to continue supporting Somalia toward achieving further stability and prosperity. For his part, the Minister expressed his confidence and his thanks to the Secretary-General for the role he has played in supporting his country and looked forward for more cooperation and coordination in the coming period.
