OIC Welcomes Launching of Global Islamic Fund for Refugees

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomes the signing of an agreement between the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB) to establish the Global Islamic Fund for Refugees (GIFR).

This came in a statement delivered by Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakheet, OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs during an event organized in New York on Thursday 22 September 2022 and attended by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank, the Director General of Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development and the Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.

Ambassador Bakheet praised the partnership between the OIC and these institutions, expressing the OIC’s commitment to enhance the partnership in various fields, particularly on facing the challenges of refugees in the Muslim world, and affirmed the OIC’s support for the initiative to establish the Fund to meet the desires humanitarian objectives.
