Saudi Arabia in Cooperation with OIC, IsDB and WDO Co-organized Side Event on Capacity Building for Female Refugees, on the Side-line of the 66th Session of the CSW

The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and Women’s Development Organization (WDO) co-organized a virtual panel discussion on “Capacity Building for Female Refugees “on the sideline of the 66th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The virtual event took place today 15 March 2022. This event is organized in the framework of implementing resolution No. 11/8-W on Joint Action to Support and Empower Refugee and Displaced Women at the 8th Session of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, held in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt, on 6-8 July 2021.

The virtual side event aimed to highlight programs and initiatives to ensure decent living for women and girls in conflict zones and refugee camps with a specific focus on OIC Member States. Panellists from King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, IsDB, WDO, IPHRC, ILO and UN Women discussed the different programs and trainings aimed at helping women to sustain themselves.

The opening session included welcoming remarks from H.E. Mr. Mohammed Alateek- Charge d’Affaires of the Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations. Also from H.E Mr. Elmoiz Ismail Mahmoud -Senior Fragility and Resilience Specialist, Resilience and Social Development Department, Islamic Development Bank; and an opening statement delivered by ASG Amb. Tariq Ali Bakheet, the Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs.

In his opening remarks, ASG Amb. Tariq Ali Bakheet, stressed that Empowering and supporting refugee and displaced women is among the top priorities of the OIC and that with the will and support of Member States, the OIC General Secretariat along with the relevant specialized institutions, such as, IsDB and WDO will continue to provide supportive programs, trainings and family support services to refugee women and girls in conflict zones in OIC Member States.
