The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu received in his office today,Wednesday 16 December 2009 Mr. Jan Henningsson, Senior Advisor , Middle East and North Africa Department of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Mr. Jan Thesleff, Swedish Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia . The meeting stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the OIC and the EU on issues of common concern as Sweden holds the presidency of the European Union . The Swedish delegation highlighted the importance of the Organization of the Islamic Conference at the international level and expressed the desire of Sweden to deepen its bilateral relationship with the organization in all areas of common interest. On his part Prof. Ihsanoglu, welcomed Sweden’s interest in the activities of the OIC and stated that the OIC is very keen to further strengthening its bilateral relations with Sweden to promote dialogue and understanding. Prof. Ihsanoglu briefed the delegation on the activities of the Organization within the framework of the Ten-Year Program and the OIC Charter especially in the areas of human rights , advancement of women and socio-economic development. The meeting discussed various political dossiers notably the situation in Palestine and Somalia.
