The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has praised the continued efforts of Saudi Arabia, the headquarters state and the chair of the Islamic Summit, and its contacts with the involved parties to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation government to stop its attacks and actions in the city of Al-Quds Ash-Sharif, and the Israeli aggression on the illegally besieged Gaza Strip.
The OIC appreciated the confirmation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Chair of the Islamic Summit, during his call with H.E. President Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine, that Saudi Arabia will continue its efforts at all levels to stop the Israeli measures and attacks on Al-Quds Ash-Sharif by communicating with the international actors to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation government.
The General Secretariat commended the efforts made by the OIC’s Member States, especially Egypt, Jordan, and Qatar, to stop the bloodshed of the Palestinians and reach a ceasefire. It also appreciated the role of the Islamic countries, members of the Security Council, and the chair of the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers in its current session.
It is worth noting that on May 16, 2021, the OIC held an open-ended emergency meeting of the Executive Committee at the level of foreign ministers, at the invitation of Saudi Arabia, to discuss the tragic events and Israeli attacks in the occupied land of Palestine, especially in Al-Quds Ash-Sharif and the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The meeting issued a resolution, which rejected and condemned the continued Israeli colonization of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Al-Quds, and its establishment of an apartheid system there, specifically through building settlements, destroying Palestinian property, building a racial expansion wall, confiscating lands, homes and properties, and forcibly evicting and displacing Palestinians from their homes and land.
The follow-up to the resolution issued by the meeting also resulted in political action in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which held an emergency session last Thursday to discuss the attacks carried out by Israel, the occupying Power, in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The OIC seizes the stop of the aggression to remind the international community of the importance of moving to a permanent settlement as per the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.
