The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held and hosted, on 1 February 2021, the first in a series of future training sessions on “building election management, monitoring and observation capacities”.
In his keynote speech, kicking off the event on behalf of Secretary General Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, the Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Dr Yousef Aldobeay, stressed that the OIC has an extensive experience in election observation, firmly committed as it is to its mission of serving the Member States.
The agenda for this training session, Dr Aldobeay pointed out, will focus on such issues as the role of election observers, voting patterns, election observation phases, the OIC legal framework for election management, and the modus operandi of the OIC election observations missions.
The training session will take two full days, starting from February 1, and will be composed of four working sessions focused, inter alia, on the importance of elections for peace and security building, women and their role and participation in elections, challenges for election observers and partnering with parallel regional and international organizations.
